From tracks to electrons in the ATLAS detector

par M. Thomas Koffas (CERN)

US/Central
Description
Electrons constitute one of the most important participating particles in decays observed at the Large Hadron Collider. A description of the steps that lead to the reconstruction of electrons (and electrons from converted photons) will be given. First an overview of the track reconstruction in the ATLAS tracker will be presented. Tasks specific to electrons will be emphasized, including corrections due to bremsstrahlung losses. The final reconstruction of the electrons after the addition of the calorimeter cluster information into a proper electromagnetic object will follow. As an aside the converted photon reconstruction will also be presented due to the inherent ambiguity between the two objects.
