Crystal collimation: yes we can

Channeling effects of high-energy protons on silicon crystals have been investigated in the north area of the CERN-SPS during the last years and a half. The reflection effect, predicted by simulations in the mid-Eighties, has been observed and its dependence on crystal parameters studied at large. Applications on collimation seem possible with an unprecedented efficiency and will be studied soon.
