Description
We have evaluated the capability of imaging inner structure of a nuclear plant using compact muon radiography systems. One tracking system is composed of units of X-Y tracking planes, each plane consisting of 100 scintillating strips of width 1 cm. Two tracking systems were located about 60 m and 30 m away from the center of a GM Mk-II type nuclear reactor. With the data corresponding to about 100 days, massive objects were identified in the storage pool whereas no object was observed in the fuel loading zone: the plant has been not in operation since 11.3.2011. We present also the studies concerning the imaging sensitivity and radiation tolerance if they are to be employed to image the damaged Fukushima Daiichi plants. The work has been carried out in a collaboration of KEK, Tokyo Metropolitan U. and U. of Tokyo.
