Description
The dark matter thermal production mechanism, so called "WIMP mechanism", constitutes the most straightforward possibility of explanation we have for the dark matter relic density observed today. Direct, indirect and collider dark matter detection experiments are at last reaching the level of sensitivity which is necessary to begin to really test this scenario in a general way. In this talk we will review the three main theoretical approaches one can consider to dig out information on such a possibility from these experiments: model independent effective operator approach, explicit mediator approach, explicit model approach. Each approach will be discussed on the basis of a few illustrative examples we were recently interested in.
