Parton distributions for LHC run II

I will discuss recent progress in our understanding of the parton substructure of the proton, driven by the needs of precision physics at the LHC. After recalling the main issues related to parton distributions during LHC Run I, I will present the most recent developments in PDF determination, with specific reference to the new generation of NNPDF parton sets. I will then discuss prospects for precision physics at LHC Run II, in particular improvements in accuracy and new analysis tools.
