Description
We discuss the current status and perspective of diffractive and forward physics at the LHC. The updates are given on the Central Exclusive Production (CEP) processes obtained within the Durham model as well as an implementation of this model into the new Monte Carlo generator, SuperChic 2. The photon-photon collider option at the LHC in the forward proton mode is reviewed. Motivated by the recent LHC observation of an excess of diphoton events around 750 GeV invariant mass we discuss the possibility that this is due to the spin-zero resonance dominantly produced in photon-photon fusion. We show that the inclusive photon-photon luminosity could be calculated with an uncertainty about 15% and present state-of-the-art precise determination of the exclusive luminosity which could be used for a range of various BSM physics studies in the photon-photon initiated channel.
