Description

The Standard Model (SM) of particle physics so far successfully explains almost all particle phenomena, including the recently discovered Higgs boson. However, there are several reasons by which physicists believe that the SM is not the ultimate theory, and that there must be New Physics.
The SuperKEKB accelerator and Belle II experiment at the KEK laboratory in Japan, will try to find evidence for New Physics using precision measurements of many rare decay processes of heavy B and D mesons, and also by searching for SM-forbidden decays of the heavy tau lepton. 
In this talk, I present briefly the physics program at Belle II, and then the status the project; results of the phase 1 machine commissioning in 2016, recent integration and commissioning of the Belle II detector, and plan of the coming phase 2 commissioning and the phase 3 physics run.
