Description
ThomX is a new accelerator project envisaging the realization of a Compton Back Scattering (CBS) source in the campus of the Paris Sud University. Thanks to the advance of different technology fields in French laboratories, like the high finesse Fabry-Perot resonators and the fibre lasers, at present it is possible to realize a compact and relative low energy accelerator (70 m2 and 50 MeV) which should provide a hard X ray flux of 1012-1013 ph/sec. This new type of light source is complementary with the synchrotron facilities since it can provide very high energy X rays but with a lower flux. Nevertheless, many possible users have already demonstrated a strong interest for this innovative technology. We will present the different project phases, the characteristics of the source and the main application to the applied X rays physics showing also how this project can be extended to different energies for Nuclear and Particle Physics applications.
